It's now 2010, and I have seen many movies which are now equipped with CGI technology.
Back to 1970s, CGI technology was introduced in movies, and from time to time, the CGI technology had improved so much, one of the recent movie, Avatar, has a very magnificent scenery in the movie. I watched a video regarding to the making of Avatar. They use real-time performance capture, when I first watched the movie in cinema, I thought all the Na'vi was created by computer but I only knew it that they use such a technology in capture the movement of human.
James Cameron, the director of Avatar, has come out with this idea before Titanic (another of his famous film) came out, and Avatar can only be done in 2009, and he actually said it some scene took 2 years to consider how to shoot and capture. In most of games, normally use low-poly objects because high-polygons required much memory to render, but in movie, for example Avatar, some of the scene they used up to 50 billion polygons, a crazy amount. Compared to graphic in Toy Story, a film of Pixar studio. We can see the huge difference in terms of graphic. When I first watched Toy Story about 10 years ago, I don't know whether how much time they used to produce the film, 2 years? or 5 years?.

Second Life's Experience
It's week 9
I spent my time on Second Life this few days. Beside the 5 locations I posted earlier in this blog, I also visited to some other location such as a Japanese cultural town to explore and know more about Second Life, I felt that Second Life contained many locations design according to some many places in real world.
I was thinking whether we can build our own place in Second Life or not, but I realized that we need to pay in order to do this. It was a quite interesting virtual application just the loading speed was extremely slow which might take up to half an hour to load certain objects. For me, I am fancy with all the beautiful landscaping location in Second Life, such as Straylight, a really beautiful nature environment. Overall, Second Life is a very good 3d virtual application for me, although I just spent a month using it. The only obstacle is we need good connection in order to play it smoothly, otherwise I can't even move my character in second Life. I might also use second life as my benchmark for my project in the other class. After go through the pages of "The Architecture", I feel much more comfortable on the interface and control navigation in second Life, which helped me on my second Life exploration.
After second life, I still have the communication analysis project, and we wanted to do our analysis at the airport, but we can't start before we get the permission letter. Since airport is a huge place so we might need to spend at least half day at the airport and probably we will start do our observation at the airport as soon as we get the permission letter.

EXPLORING SECOND LIFE : Location #5 : Straylight
Botanical Landscaping, Garden and Environmental Design Center, Straylight
When I reached here, the environment surrounding is magnificent. People who love nature and landscape would think this is their paradise. The form of trees, waterfalls, colors and lighting produced a very beautiful landscape.
The colors of the trees and the leaves falling, reminded me of autumn, and this scene probably can just be seen in autumn, I don't think we can see this scene in Malaysia.
The trees here do not have leaves, it deemed as dead forest. It would be better if I came here at night, which I did but the comparison is not much different.
We can also seen some trees with snows. The designer attempted to put in the elements four seasons and it made an impact on the quality of the design in this place.
Aurora appeared only at the night scene. This is beautiful, although it was inside a virtual world. Aurora can only be seen in very few places such as Alaska, Canada, Australia and so on. I did really hoped one day I could experience the real aurora dancing in front of my eyes at least once in my entire life.
I have a mixed feeling in this scene, palm and sakura trees appeared in the same area. The designer of this place probably a nature lover who always wanted to create an experience for other users to explore his "fantasy" world.
The designer included lava in this place. This can showed that the designer's desire on nature since volcano is a part of nature.
After exploring the whole island, I felt that this is one of the most beautiful place I had visited in Second Life. I would like this place to be on the reality, but of course it won't be happen since this is totally a heaven where will never be existed in real world. EXPLORING SECOND LIFE : Location #4 : VIRTUAL TRAVEL TO MEXICO
Visited to Mexico in Second Life!
This is a 3D virtual environment where references to the real Mexico. The building, theme and the concept are all base on Mexico. When I looked at the environment, it was really beautiful, not in term of graphic, but the way they construct this place. For me, the only historical building that I knew in Mexico is Chichen Itza. I was exploring the whole environment, and I found out some buildings that represent Mexico, such as Chichen Itza, Cathedral of Guadalajara were being included Second Life - Virtual Mexico.

There are a horse-renting area where we can rent a horse for free. Since we are able to "fly", horse renting is not really needed, but if we wanted to have an experience riding a horse and walk around, we can just go and rent the horse, it's free of charge. I rent a horse just for a knowledge and experience to immerse in this virtual Mexico.
I'm riding a black horse and walking around somewhere else, but I dismissed the horse instantly right after I reached another area.
The environment surrounding probably base on El Tajin, a largest cities of Classic era of Mesoamerica in Mexico.

This is a fort area just located beside the city. There is a cannon and we can touch it, the a cannon will fire. Smoke effect will appear after we fired the cannon. This probably one of the historical building in Mexico.
For me, this is a great location to be visited in Second Life, since Virtual Mexico has a lot of building design that represent the real Mexico, that's why I can feel that I'm at Mexico. The building they rebuilt in second life is very similar to the one in Mexico, somehow they managed to put in the cultural and heritages of Mexico and to exhibit it in Second Life.

EXPLORING SECOND LIFE : Location #3 : TROPICAL ISLAND
Back to Second Life !
Tropical Island, an island where reminded me of vacation island. There was a background song playing, and the environment looks very different compared to many locations where I have visited last time.
Firstly I would like to comment about the environment of this small island. After I went through all the areas, except for some areas where looks empty and nothing there. The design is quite beautiful in my point of view, the palm trees, building made of woods, and so on.
The time I came to this location was at night, I remembered the last time I tried this location, it was at evening, but after exploring quite a long time in this location, the sun rise, and it became a morning scene.
Actually everything is the same in term of form, but the lighting and the mood is different.
The time when I first came here ( during night ), as we can see, someone are standing at the beach area, and here is the starting point of this location as well. I felt that I was at a night beach party, although only a few people there.
The interior of the building beside the entrance of this location, a few surf shacks exhibited on the left side, and those are for sales, but I don't have any money to purchase these. The other things are swimming and beach costumes exhibited in form of pictures.
It seems like an enjoying moments, I would like to have a sit and lay down for a few hours if I'm really in this world.
So here we go, laying down in this situation is much comfortable. I would like to have this in my house one day in real world.
Another wooden building at the other side of the beach, similar to the first one. Surf shacks and costumes are available here too.
Honestly, I don't really know what place was this. For me, this is like an entrance of a shrine ? Some pillars, and waterfalls in this design, I can't really relate this "building" to Tropical Island.
Overall, this island is very small, nothing much can be interact, and I have no idea whether surfing did existed in this island or not. I like the overall environment design, but it really don't have much things that can attract my attention. perhaps maybe something interesting I missed out during my exploration on this location?

Trip to Bird Park and Orchid Garden
On Wednesday, we went to Bird Park and Orchid Garden at Kuala Lumpur for an outdoor experience.
Before we go into the park, there was a main sign of Bird Park, with some fishes in the water, but if without the text "Taman Burung", which means "Bird Park" in malay language, I don't really know here is the bird park if I came here without being told that I am going to Bird Park, and there are no any statues or pictures of birds to indicate here is the Bird Park.
FOCUS and EMOTION
A parrot was eating it's food, corn, these parrots are just staying in their own area, although they are able to flying around, but they don't.

Emu in their own cage, they are restricted to walk away from this small area because they are considered aggressive, or they might threaten the visitors as their size was slightly huge than many birds.
SPACE, FORM and ORIENTATION
The environment of bird park was just looks like a zoo but this place has a lot of trees and the space was very huge. There were tons of bird species in this covered area, and those birds are restricted to flying away from this area because the net is place at the top. This can ensure that birds are safe within the area too.
Birds are standing on the roof of a cafe, and the net on the top is to prevent these birds flee from this particular area.
Most of the birds such as flamingos were giving freedom so that they can flying around in a very huge space, and staffs will be feeding these birds by giving them fishes.
Some birds such eagles, owls and ostriches are placed in the separate space since they might be a threat for the other birds and perhaps for visitors as well. A scene which plenty of birds are flying around freely in front of you was magnificent. These birds are not aggressive and some of them are beautiful looking as well, such as peacocks.
This is how they put some aggressive birds such as emu, in a space, which separate both visitors and birds with a fence, so that visitors can enjoy looking at the birds in close length without worrying being attacked by the birds.
KNOWLEDGE and TASK
There were a lot of boards within an area to tell the visitors what kind of birds they are, the name of the bird and the brief description.
A map billboard to show the location of each different area, not all the birds were placing together in only one huge space. Each color in the map stands for different region which contains different species of bird.
A board in front of Emu's cage, which they use to educate the visitors about the brief detail of the bird.
Yet another brief detail printed on a billboard to transmit information to user.
EXPERIENCE
At the end of the exploration at Bird Park, I realized that I didn't wear a cap or a hat. This is not to avoid the hot weather since the bird park is filled with a lot of trees, but this can use to avoid "bird's droppings", and luckily I was not "targeted" by the birds :-)
Anyway it was a good experience especially when the birds were in the same space as where we were standing, and it give me a good impression because I'm able to see these birds flying in such a close range, especially the part which the flamingos are flying freely surrounding me. It was a different feeling when we watched this scene in a movie or at a very far range.
-- THE ORCHID GARDEN --
The Orchid Garden, just the opposite of Bird Park. The design of orchid garden is just like a big circle, with both exit and entrance are in front of the orchid garden, although there are no sign to show which stairs are the entrance and the exit, which could cause confusion to visitors.
There were shops at the Orchid Park, and most of visitors, including myself, were using this path to avoid the extremely hot sun light, and there was a few resting area under a tree.
FOCUS and EMOTION
Not really sure what kind of plants / objects are these, but It made me felt curious when I was closer to these, somehow it reminded me of logging. Anyway these were attracting though.
This area gave me a sense of scary because those plants didn't look friendly, especially the one hanging on the top, looks more like parasites.
Another strange looking stuff, looks interesting, why did they do this? But for me it's considered creative, which can save a lot of space and exhibiting the flowers using such a good composition.
I don't really know what is this, parasites perhaps ? but it did attracted my attention when I was walking in this area although it's not very beautiful. My understanding on plants and flowers was still a beginner level.
I am not sure how many times I ever seen flowers on the trees. Most of the flowers I seen in my entire life, most of them are on a small plant, or in vase, I rarely seen flowers on a tall and big tree, that why this attracted me a lot. Maybe I seldom observe and explore more on big trees when I went out to other nature places last time.
SPACE, FORM and ORIENTATION
At the top of Orchid Garden, probably the highest area, with a lot of flowers placed nicely in a shape, which make it looks beautiful.
A fountain at the orchid garden, although it's just a normal fountain but it's always good to put a fountain in a flower themed garden since this always attracting people, especially in a hot weather.
A scene which looks like a true garden. Plenty of plants surrounding and really attracting people who love nature.
This is a small man-made pool with a lot of lotus leaves, which has a better impact on making this place more beautiful.
This road path with plants surrounding is a great environment as it showed a very strong feeling of nature, especially the plants surrounding are almost filled in all spaces.
KNOWLEDGE and TASK
Some plants exhibited, with a billboard written "Pick any flowers and throw rubbishes here is prohibited". This is to ensure people don't break the rules set up at Orchid Garden.
EXPERIENCE
Overall this Orchid Garden exploration was a good experience for people who love nature and green. Maybe some part of it's are not very attractive but somehow it managed to show the theme and the concept of this garden. Well, the pool with lotus leaves on the top of the garden is good, some strange looking plants are also attracting especially for people who seldom or never go to nature world. To be honest, I not sure whether the flowers I seen in the garden is Orchid or not, since the name of this place called Orchid Garden.
Since I don't have a good understanding on flowers and plants, so I think this trip actually helped me and impressed me a lot.

EXPLORING SECOND LIFE : Location #2 : Numbakulla Island
Numbakulla Island, a fantasy and beautiful place where people especially who love beautiful landscape and nature, could spend their remaining days in this place. The first impression when I reached here was, this place really give me a feeling of Role Playing Game. The small cave located at the entrance looks like a tunnel which connected to a paradise. When I'm entering this place, I feel that something beautiful is right in front of me. After going through the cave, there was a small town, and this scene is absolutely fantastic for me. I never think of this scene actually, and this environment probably never exist in real life.
The big flower reminded me of some fairy tale stories, while the design of the building is very much like what I seen in some Japanese RPG. I can feel that I'm in a very safe and freedom place when I'm going through this small town, especially the color and the objects surrounding which make this place as beautiful as a fantasy world, the raining effect showed in the very first time right after I entered this place was awesome.

Beside this place, there are another place, probably another town where people could feel themselves being to another world (civilization) compared to the first one. The first town I went is very beautiful while this one reminded me of city of abandon, although it never really damaged, but my first impression was that. When I'm exploring this area, what I felt is the environment looks very much like those old villages which often seen in many historical movie, drama, game and so on, and at the end of this town, there was an indoor building where exhibited quite plenty of pictures on the wall, but for me, this indoor gallery has a different feeling compared to the outdoor design of this area.
At the top of this area, there is another place where looked much alike with this one. From here I felt that I was at a walk through process to going through these all different civilization. The last part is just beyond this area, and here is another beautiful place. It might not existed in real world but what I get from this place was the different civilization of all these places. After exploring this island, I experienced something that never going to experience in real world. The environment probably might just exists in movie and game. The feeling is great when I exploring all these place, which like an adventure walk through story. Not much interactions I could find in this island but the overall walk through in this island is awesome, because I always wanted to see a real paradise when I was a kid.

The big flower reminded me of some fairy tale stories, while the design of the building is very much like what I seen in some Japanese RPG. I can feel that I'm in a very safe and freedom place when I'm going through this small town, especially the color and the objects surrounding which make this place as beautiful as a fantasy world, the raining effect showed in the very first time right after I entered this place was awesome.

Beside this place, there are another place, probably another town where people could feel themselves being to another world (civilization) compared to the first one. The first town I went is very beautiful while this one reminded me of city of abandon, although it never really damaged, but my first impression was that. When I'm exploring this area, what I felt is the environment looks very much like those old villages which often seen in many historical movie, drama, game and so on, and at the end of this town, there was an indoor building where exhibited quite plenty of pictures on the wall, but for me, this indoor gallery has a different feeling compared to the outdoor design of this area.
At the top of this area, there is another place where looked much alike with this one. From here I felt that I was at a walk through process to going through these all different civilization. The last part is just beyond this area, and here is another beautiful place. It might not existed in real world but what I get from this place was the different civilization of all these places. After exploring this island, I experienced something that never going to experience in real world. The environment probably might just exists in movie and game. The feeling is great when I exploring all these place, which like an adventure walk through story. Not much interactions I could find in this island but the overall walk through in this island is awesome, because I always wanted to see a real paradise when I was a kid.
